Queen Mara has spent her life amassing power and mastering the dark arts. Like that of Alexander the Great, her empire sprawls across the known world. We don’t see how Kem came to be in the possession of her nemesis, the Green Wizard, but we’re perhaps not too surprised that she didn’t pursue active motherhood.
Mara is greed incarnate. She takes, but when something is freely given, as with Kem or possibly Darling, she blossoms into the tender, delicate, and weak flower that she secretly longs to be – until she comes, anyway. Greed is Mara’s power.
Mara is also slinky, sexy, sophisticated, educated, and casually cruel. She knows that the world exists merely for her to take it. She can have whatever she wants, so long as she puts in the simple effort of procuring it. All male characters are defined by their relationship to her.
